About BayHorse Foundation Trust
Founded in 2014 by Duane W. Moss, a former international lawyer, accountant, and entrepreneur, the BayHorse Foundation Trust is a public 501(c)(3) charitable, nonprofit organization committed to primarily assist family businesses and agricultural pursuits located within the Ute Tribe’s exterior boundaries, primarily in the Duchesne River watershed. The main purpose is to help protect, develop, and manage water resources in support of the tribal and local homelands, culture, and developing economy.
In 2002, Duane and Kristine purchased four parcels of land and started the BayHorse Ranch. Their goal was to one day create a learning environment that supports the entrepreneurship and educational goals of young local and indigenous families along the Colorado River System, starting with the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation located in the Uintah Basin. The ranch is intentionally located within the external boundaries of the Tribe’s reservation.

Water Resources Priorities
Working with local and tribal families to develop and improve skills supporting self sustained livlihoods in family owned businesses and food production facilities
Further development of technologies to monitor and improve water use in the various water basins will allow local and Tribal families to take legitimate leadership roles in solving and coordinating current efforts with Water Users and State and Federal authorities in settling contracts, disputes, and the imminent problems associated with diminishing water flows in the Colorado River drainage systems.
Putting Water to Beneficial Use
We assist families within the external boundaries of Indian reservations to research, perfect, develop, and fund beneficial use of their water rights and land on a basin-wide, Tribe, family or individual basis.
Develop Funding for Establishing Summer Training Activities for Youth, Young Adults, and Families
The BayHorse Foundation Trust, has acquired the right to use the BayHorse Ranch property at minimal cost for events and activities which will assist youth, young adults, and families gain technical and communication skills for healthy food production, preparation, and distribution. It will also support developing and managing agricultural and family-based business projects while building self-sustaining attitudes and ethics that support cultural and spiritual priorities.
